Jon Milley is a student at Memorial University of Newfoundland, currently pursuing a Masters degree in Computer Engineering. He has been dabbling with photography for many years, but recently began taking more interest in expanding his hobby.

Jon was born in Grand Falls (now Grand Falls - Windsor), Newfoundland. Growing up he lived in many places in the province of Newfoundland from Charlottetown in Labrador to Roddickton to Pasadena. Eventually the family settled down in Grand Falls - Windsor, which is still considered "home".

In his youth his interests included hiking, camping, outdoor sports, adventure gaming, and computers. His interest in Photography really took hold after the start of University, but mostly consisted of snapshots of friends and family. After Convocation from Memorial University in the summer of 2003 Jon began using a digital camera and that sparked his interest in doing more than snapshots.

After he began his Masters of Engineering he upgraded to a more capable camera, and began pursuing landscape and nature photography. After many months of this he became interested in moving to a new level of photography.

Considering himself an advanced amateur, he is currently preparing to approach local galleries in his home of St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada. Having received encouragement from family and friends, and privately selling prints of his photos for some time, he believes he might be able to reach a wider audience.

He is a member of several on-line art communities, where he has been sharing his photography for more than a year. deviantART.com was the first and the most developed. His gallery can be viewed here.

Jon has recently upgraded his camera system to include the Nikon D50 digital SLR. This new camera will allow greater flexibility, and greater creativity in his photography. The Nikon also captures with greater quality and consistency, hopefully allowing for growth in Jon's abilities. The D50 will allow prints up to 16"x20" with good results. In the coming months Jon will be complimenting this camera with add-on lenses and accesories such as flash units.

Previously Jon shot with a Panasonic DMC FZ3 digital camera, and a limited set of amateur equipment. This camera lets him print full quality 5"x7" prints (300dpi) and excellent quality 8"x10" and 8"x12" prints. For the time being this camera will remain as backup to the SLR. It is hoped to eventually supliment the dSLR with a film body, and replace the FZ3 with a compact pocket digital.

His preferred photo development lab is Newfoundland Camera Imaging based in St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada. For editing his digital images Jon uses Adobe Photoshop Elements, and a Wacom Graphire3 tablet.

To date his most popular series of photographs is of the Quidi Vidi Flood in April of 2005. His photographs capture various angles on the lake, but do not exploit any damage to the surrounding community. Please see the Gallery.
